GREENWOOD

 ALPACA STUD
* SEEKING TO BREED COLOURED EXCELLENCE *

Welcome to Greenwood Alpaca Stud

Welcome to the web site of GREENWOOD Alpaca Stud which is owned by Mena Schnizler.

Since inception 15 years ago ( Oh where has that time gone ?) the breeding goal has always been to run a small herd, or boutique if you wish, specializing in GREY & BLACK.

The reasoning behind "keeping it small" is to prove that one can make a very fine living from alpacas - Greenwood is a full-time alpaca breeder.

Greenwood's focus is always pro-active with the focus on enhancing breeding females to improve, or "tweek" colour consistancy & predictability, fleece micron reduction whilst improving weight of fleece through careful selection of genetically superior males. This enables us to consistently achieve a quality alpaca...sometimes not Grey or Black... but  a pleasing result of quality improvement with each new generation.

Greenwood is a current member of the Australian Alpaca Association and is located in the Victorian Eastern Region.

Greenwood is also registerd in the Q-Alpaca program (10/0381). The PIC numbers for both farms are: 3DTME 397 and 3YRHP 150.

Greenwood is happy to support other breeders by re-stocking with other farms alpacas hence you will always find different prefixes within our herd.

We are located both in Mansfield 2.5 hrs north east of Melbourne....and what a magnificent days outing this drive is.... Mansfield lies at the base of ski resort Mt Buller & with both Lake Eildon at near capacity and Lake Nilacootie at capacity...fantastic wineries & eateries to cater for all tastes what better place for both humans and alpacas.

Most ot the pasture is 'natural grasses' - all alpacas simply thrive here.

The second farm we run is in Dixons Creek, about 50k's NE of Melbourne in the beautiful - and at present very wet - Yarra Valley.  Another haven for the tourist so well worth the visit to this area.

My love for these beautiful and intelligent animals never leaves me and as a business I haven't found anything I would love to do more.
